Post-doctoral training fellowships are available to work in the laboratory of Judith Steen Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Neurology situated in the Kirby Center for Neurobiology at Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. The Steen laboratory is interested in understanding neurodegeneration in Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA ) and in Neurodegenerative Tauopathies.
The goal of the SMA translational research project is to better understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie disease pathogenesis caused by SMN mutations. Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA ). SMA is a disease caused by mutations of Survival Motor Neuron 1 (SMN1) gene and is the most common genetic cause of infant mortality. We are looking for a research fellow with a Ph.D in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and/or Genetics. A strong interest in neurobiology with a background in mass spectrometry based proteomics, molecular biology and the use of mouse models is desired.
The Tauopathy translational research project is focused on developing and applying mass spectrometry based quantitative proteomics to understand clearance pathways for Tau. Tauopathies are group of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by accumulation of tau protein in the brain. We are looking for a research fellow with a Ph.D in Biochemistry with a strong background in mass spectrometry. A strong interest in neurobiology is desired.
The post-doctoral fellows will be supervised by Dr. Steen and will use state of the art mass spectrometry instrumentation. The Steen lab is within the Children’s Hospital F.M. Kirby Neurobiology Center for in the new Center for Life Sciences Building, 3 Blackfan Circle, Boston, MA, adjacent to Children’s Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School. Harvard Medical School provides an exciting and vibrant scientific research environment.
Applicants should send resumes and 3 references to Dr. Judith Steen, CLS12032, Children’s Hospital Boston, 300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02115 or email to Judith.Steen@childrens.harvard.edu
