A postdoctoral research associate position is currently available in the Department of Molecular Therapeutics at Scripps Florida. The research associate will be involved in investigating the role of serotonin 5-HT1A receptors in cocaine addiction and comorbid psychiatric disorders in cocaine addiction, which is supported by a NIDA grant. To date, little is known about the role of serotonin receptors, and the involvement of 5-HT1A receptors in drug addiction is poorly understood although the literature supports the importance of these receptors in psychiatric and cognitive disorders. Therefore, using rodent models of cocaine addiction, molecular techniques, and possibly gene-modifying tools, the research is designed to examine where and how 5-HT1A receptors in the CNS play a role in cocaine addiction. Examples of research techniques are drug self-administration in rodents, the surgical implantation of intravenous catheters and intracranial cannulas, behavioral tests that measure depression- and anxiety-like states in rodents, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry. With our collaborations, we plan to employ optogenetic and viral vector approaches in the near future. The research environment at Scripps Florida is vigorous and growing rapidly, with a record of high-ranking journal publications and grant funding that will provide a postdoctoral trainee with an excellent opportunity to achieve his or her career goals. Jupiter is located in Palm Beach County and is approximately 80 miles north of Miami.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the contact information of at least three references to Sunmee Wee, Ph.D., at sunmee@scripps.edu . The position will be available until filled.
