Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Post, doc) in immunology and/or cell biology, financed by the Norwegian Research Council (GlobVac), is available for a period of 2 years at the Department of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Norwegian University for Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway.

The ambitious overall aim of this project is to create an improved vaccine against tuberculosis. This is an ongoing project that needs the added expertise of a T cell immunologist to reach the goal. The post doctor will contribute by establishing protocols and perform experiments on the T cell component of the immune response.

The current group members are highly skilled in innate immunity, antibody production, cell biology, phagocytosis, trafficking, antigen presentation, bacterial genomics and live subcellular imaging. With this position we hold all necessary skills in vaccinology, and we will focus on mycobacteria.

The focus of the position will be to establish protocols to assess the quantity and quality of antigen presentation to T cells, both in in vitro antigen presentations assays and from in vivo immunizations in the murine system. This will be a challenging project for a person with a doctoral degree in immunology or cell biology.

The candidate should demonstrate prior expertise in the field, be innovative, creative and cooperative. Prior experience as post doctor, and from interdisciplinary collaborations, would be beneficial. The applicant must have handed in her/his doctoral thesis before the application deadline to be considered for the position. Appointment will not be made before the doctoral thesis has been defended. The successful candidate would be expected to commence work in the autumn of 2007.

A post doctoral position is remunerated according to wage levels 54 to 77 on the Norwegian government salary scale, with a gross salary from NOK 394.700,- to NOK 613.100,- a year. The position is ordinarily remunerated between wage level 54 (NOK 394.700,-) and wage level 58 (NOK 423.800,-). Two per cent of the salary will be deducted as an obligatory premium to the Norwegian Public Sen/ice Pension Fund.
