Job Description Note: This is a full-time external grant funded position with full benefits. Continuation of employment will be based on annual performance appraisals and future funding appropriations. Position Summary The Department of Biology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking qualified candidates for an NIH funded postdoctoral position. Duties and Responsibilities: • Teach microbiology laboratory sections (0.25 fte) to sophomore-level college students • Conduct research (0.75 fte) in the area of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents, bacterial physiology, and pathogenesis in the laboratory of Dr. M. Varela. Fellow will work with Dr. Varela and a team of graduate and undergraduate students. • Present research at scientific conferences and publish findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals Minimum Job Requirements: Ph.D. in appropriate area is required. Bachelor’s degree in a biological science field, and one year experience teaching biological sciences also required. Experience can be gained concurrently with education. Physical Demand and Working Conditions: • Continuation of position is contingent upon grant funding. • Work is performed during normal work hours but may require some evening or weekend hours • Work is sedentary in nature with 25 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry • Work requires reaching, handling of objects with hands and/or fingers, talking, hearing, and seeing.
