A postdoctoral position is available to work on an interdisciplinary project concerning genomics-guided discovery of bacterial secondary metabolites and biosynthetic studies. The project focuses particularly on a group of peptidyl nucleoside molecules with antibiotic properties. The work involves extraction/isolation and structural elucidation of novel compounds, biosynthetic pathway engineering and functional characterisation of enzymes.

The successful candidate should have a recent Ph.D in chemistry/biochemistry, a strong scientific record, and preferably have experience in isolation and characterisation of polar metabolites. Applications are encouraged particularly from candidates who have solid chemical background and are willing to acquire new techniques in molecular biology and enzymology to apply to the field of natural product biosynthesis.

This project is funded by an ANR (Agence National de la Recherche) young investigator grant (to Dr. Y. Li). The work will be based at the laboratory of “Communication Molecules and Adaptation of Microorganisms” in National History Museum at the centre of Paris. The position will benefit from a dynamic young research group and from the multi-disciplinary environment of the laboratory.

The appointment will be made on a fixed term of two years staring from 1 November 2011. The exact starting date can be settled upon agreement.
