A Postdoctoral Position or two PhD Positions to study cell-cell communication and gene programs implicated in tumor angiogenesis and tumor progression in genetically modified mice.

Job Description:

Angiogenesis is essential for the development of vertebrate embryos and has a pivotal role in physiological and pathological conditions in adults, such as tumor progression. We have recently identified novel mechanisms in which the transcription factor JunB plays a critical role in regulating VEGF and tumor angiogenesis (Schmidt et al., 2007, EMBO J.) but also in triggering endothelial cell morphogenesis (Licht et al, 2006; J Cell Biol.).

To follow up on these findings we offer a Postdoctoral Position or 2 PhD Positions in order to study cell-cell communication and gene programs implicated in tumor angiogenesis and tumor progression in genetically modified mice. The project is embedded within the Transregio SFB “Vascular differentiation and Remodeling” and thus, the successful candidates are also expected to coordinate/participate in collaborative research activities with other groups of the SFB. Postdoc and PhD applicants must hold a PhD and Diploma/MSc, respectively, in Biology/Biochemistry, be highly motivated and integrate themselves into a team. An excellent background/ interest in molecular biology, endothelial cell biology and experimental animal work is requested. Positions are available immediately and for initially 2 (PostDoc) and 3 years (PhD thesis).
