The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking applicants for a Ph.D. scientist or engineer to conduct research and development on glycosyl hydrolase and esterase enzymes for the depolymerization of lignocellulosic polysaccharides under extreme conditions of temperature and pH. The selected candidate will have experience in the production of recombinant enzymes via fermentation, recovery and purification of the enzymes using standard techniques including ion exchange, characterization of molecular weight, pI, etc. In addition, experience with characterizing enzyme activity is a must; experience with the characterization of glycosyl hydrolase activities is preferred.

The selected candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of molecular biologists, microbiologists, protein chemists/biochemists, and chemical/biochemical engineers. The proven ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team is strongly preferred.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemical or Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry or a related field. Position is a twelve month appointment, renewable annually for up to three years. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience; relocation benefits are available. Due to security considerations U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
