Vanderbilt University Medical Center | | Job Title: | Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational and Statistical Genetics | | Job Number: | 4010730 | | Date Posted: | 03/01/2012 | | Job Description Description: We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the dynamic Computational and Statistical Genetics group based in the Center for Human Genetics Research (CHGR) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The general focus of the group is the methodology development for the analysis of high-throughput genetic and genomic data with applications to studies of human diseases.
The current interest of our group is developing statistical and computational methods for analyzing next-generation sequencing data. The group provides an excellent environment and resources for genetics/genomics studies and has access to a campus-wide computing cluster with nearly 4000 cores. Areas of interest include inferring various genetic variants from sequencing data, rare variants association tests and transcriptome analysis, in both case-control and family-based studies of human complex traits. Research topics are largely driven by real studies that currently involve cancers, psychiatric disorders and others as well through local and national collaborations. The fellow is expected to work on both methodology development and data analysis to solve real-world problems. We anticipate that the field is moving fast and the research emphases will be adapted accordingly. Qualification: Applicants with a doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics or other disciplines with strong quantitative background are encouraged to apply. Programing experience in C/C++, Java, Perl/Python or other programming languages is desired. Experiences in statistical genetics research is a plus but not required.
