job description
Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Stem Cell Biology are immediately available in Raja Jothi’s laboratory at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Jothi’s group is interested in elucidating mechanisms of gene regulation in stem cells. In particular, the group is interested in understanding how transcription regulators and epigenetic modifications regulate gene expression programs during cellular development and differentiation.

Recently, the group has discovered several novel regulators of embryonic stem (ES) cell maintenance using Systems Biology and RNAi-screen approaches. Successful candidate will employ traditional functional assays in combination with array- and sequence-based high-throughput approaches (ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, etc) to characterize the roles of these novel regulators in ES cell self-renewal, differentiation, development, and reprogramming somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS). In addition, he/she will also map and characterize regulatory elements and epigenomes in ES cells.
Access to core facilities (Next Generation Sequencing, Microarrays, Immunohistochemistry, Flow Cytometry, Histology, transgenic/knockout mice core, Viral Vectors, etc) offers the trainee wide latitude in the design and pursuit of their research questions.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have obtained a Ph.D. or M.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or a related discipline within the last three years. The candidate should have strong background in molecular biology, and/or protein biochemistry. Experience in stem cell biology, development, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) and RNAi are highly desirable. Excellent communications skills and the ability to work with an highly interactive, interdisciplinary team of researchers are essential.
LOCATION: NIEHS main campus in the Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina. The RTP is the largest research park in US located in the Raleigh-Durham metroplex, and is within 15 minutes drive from Duke University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University.
SALARY/BENEFITS: Successful candidates will be offered competitive stipend/salary commensurate with number of years of postdoctoral experience and accomplishments.
Don't forget to mention Naturejobs when applying.
