A postdoctoral position, funded by the BBSRC , is available to work with Prof Peter McNaughton ( http://www.phar.cam.ac.uk/research/mcnaughton/index.html ) on the role of HCN ion channels pain sensation. The project will involve investigating the electrophysiology and expression levels of HCN ion channels in isolated pain-sensitive neurones using the patch-clamp technique and in situ hybridization, together with behavioural investigations on mice in which genes for HCN ion channels have been genetically deleted.
Applicants must have a PhD and a strong background in at least some of the areas of single-cell electrophysiology, in situ hybridization and experimental behavioural work on mice. Training will be provided if the appointee has limited experience in some of these techniques.
