The Department of Biological and Environmental Science is an internationally recognized research and teaching unit. The department covers Aquatic Sciences, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, and Environmental Science and Technology. The department houses the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Biological Interactions. The department enjoys an outstanding environment, occupying modern buildings on the shore of Lake Jyväsjärvi. The department has well-equipped laboratories, as well as specialist facilities including a bioimaging suite, a molecular genetics laboratory and a stable isotope analysis facility, and modern equipment for analysing environmental samples.

The department is currently seeking to recruit staff to the following position:
Postdoctoral Researcher in Ecotocxicology , starting from 1 June 2012 (contract length maximum of four years)

A postdoctoral researcher is being recruited in the field of ecotocxicology (contract length maximum of four years). A successful candidate is expected to have experience in research related to bioavailability and effects of chemicals in aquatic environments and experience in using different passive samplers in such research both in the laboratory and field settings.

Postdoctoral researcher is expected to focus on scientific research, but also to participate in teaching within their own areas of expertise.

According to Finnish Law, non-native university teaching staff can be granted an exemption from the requirement of Finnish language proficiency. As the department organizes part of its teaching in English ability to teach in English is credited.

The salary system of the University of Jyväskylä consists of a basic work demand level and a personal performance evaluation. The basic salary for postdoctoral researcher depends on the qualifications and experience of the nominee and ranges between levels 5-6 (2 787,19
