INSERM postdoctoral position for one year is available in the lab Maturation and plasticity of cortical maps of Dr. Ingrid Bureau in Marseille

Project:
The fellow will conduct studies on the circuit changes underlying the plasticity of somatotopic maps in mouse barrel cortex in the context of associative learning. The repetitive presentation of a sensory stimulus with a reward or a shock changes the shape of the cortical maps in primary sensory cortices. Still, the specific cortical circuits involved in this transformation remain largely unknown. The recently developed technique of laser scanning photo-stimulation permits studying the detailed diagram and functional properties of neuronal circuits in brain slices (see Bureau et al., PLoS Biol. 2006, 4(12): e382). This approach combined with behavioral training will unveil the specific cortical projections involved in learning.

We offer:
First year salary is available through INSERM.
Beginning: Feb-Jun 2008. Selected applicants are expected to apply for funding to cover their salary for subsequent years.

Location:
The lab is located at the INMED institute, on the Luminy Campus, in Marseille, France.

Requirements:
Candidates should have experience in electrophysiology and/or animal behavior.
