Description

The Department of Developmental Biology at the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg invites applications for the following positions:

Junior Group Leader

The ideal candidate has completed several years of productive postdoctoral training in developmental biology, preferably with some international research experience. It is expected that he/she will establish an independent research program in an area that allows fruitful interactions with the existing research groups within the department. Topics of interest include the following: Tissue differentiation and organogenesis in Drosophila; Formation, differentiation, and regeneration of mesodermal or endodermal tissues in the fish, amphibians, or chick; Usage of genetic, genomic, and cell biological approaches to study novel aspects of tissue development.
Separate lab and office space with access to all departmental resources will be provided. It is expected that the successful candidate will seek extramural funding and teach in the Bachelor and Master Programs in Biology. He/she will have the opportunity to habilitate. The position (13 TV-L) is for an initial period of three years and is renewable.

Postdoctoral Fellow and Graduate Student

Self-motivated and interactive individuals with a keen interest in molecular and developmental genetics are encouraged to apply. For the postdoctoral position, recent or impending completion of productive graduate work with a topic in developmental, cell, molecular biology or genetics is expected. This position (13 TV-L) is for an initial period of two years with the possibility of an extension. For the graduate student position, a Diploma/Master degree with excellence in biology or a closely-related discipline is required. This position (13 TV-L/50%) is for three years.

Research focus of the laboratory is on mesodermal patterning processes and regulation of muscle and heart development of Drosophila. Particular emphasis is on the analysis of integrated transcriptional and signaling processes, evolutionary conserved gene networks, and processes of tissue morphogenesis and cell migration (see PubMed ). Successful candidates will be involved in characterizing specific pathway components, as well as in genetic and genomic screens that are aimed at discovering novel regulators of the processes of interest.
