A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Kenneth Scott in the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. This individual will employ our laboratory’s highly-innovative functional genomics technologies toward lung cancer gene discovery followed by investigating mechanistic roles of identified cancer genes using cell culture and mouse model systems. Specifically the individual will assess the functional activity of somatic mutations identified in large scale lung tumor sequencing efforts using high-throughput functional genomics technologies recently developed in our laboratory. The goal of this work will be to identify new targets for development of directed cancer therapeutics against lung cancer.

Interested applicants should have or be close to completing a doctorate, have a peer-reviewed publication record indicative of high productivity, and possess a strong background in cell/molecular biology and cancer biology. Preferred qualifications include experience in tumor mouse models (e.g., basic xenograft models), functional cancer assays (e.g., cell invasion, migration, proliferation, anchorage-independence growth assays) and the design and production of viral vectors. Successful candidates will be expected to tackle challenging scientific problems, develop and optimize high-throughput screening technologies and contribute to the positive and energetic work environment of our laboratory.

Applicants should send their cover letter and CV directly to Dr. Scott at kls1@bcm.edu . Applicants should also provide contact information for three people who can provide letters-of-reference. For more information, see: http://www.bcm.edu/genetics/index.cfm?pmid=13696 .
