We are seeking to appoint two highly ambitious postdoctoral researchers with a demonstrable track record of research excellence to an ERC funded frontier multidisciplinary research project focussed on the growth and processing of porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and their composites into application-specific configurations to address key societal challenges in healthcare and sustainability. Postdoctoral Research Fellow 1 (Ref: 129512EB):

This position involves the preparation of MOF bionanocomposite materials from proteins and biopolymers and an evaluation of their efficacy in drug delivery and multimodal biomedical imaging applications, and would suit someone with a background in chemistry or nanoscience at the biological interface. Candidates with appropriate qualifications in biological disciplines will also be considered. You will have proven skills in the preparation of nanoparticles and their functionalisation with fluorescent tags, cell targeting groups and other biomarkers using wide-ranging coupling strategies. Appropriate experience in the physical characterisation of functionalised nanoparticles and biocomposites, confocal microscopy, magnetic resonance imaging and cell culture and handling are essential for this role.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow 2 (Ref: 129612EB):

This position involves the preparation, characterisation and processing of mesoporous MOFs and MOF -oxide composite materials into nanoparticles, microspheres and membranes, and evaluation of their practical application in catalysis and as chromatography stationary phases. Candidates with a strong background in chemistry or materials science with experience of using porous oxide and hybrid materials (e.g. silicas, zeolites) in catalysis and separation are particularly encouraged to apply. You should have excellent synthetic skills and current hands-on experience of materials characterisation (e.g. SEM /TEM , PXRD , gas adsorption). A broad knowledge of composite materials and their wider applications, including MOFs is expected.
It is expected that these vacancies will be filled by 1st November 2012, although an earlier start where possible is highly desirable.
