Position

Post Doc -- Skeletal Mechanobiology

Location

Saint Louis, Missouri, USA

Date Posted

Sep 28 2007

Description

The Biomechanical Engineering Lab in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Washington University in Saint Louis has immediate openings for two post-doctoral research associates in the field of skeletal mechanobiology. Motivated individuals are needed to work on NIH-funded studies that utilize in vivo models aimed at determining how the skeleton responds to mechanical stimulation.

Two particular questions we are pursuing are: 1) how do stem cells/osteoprogenitor cells contribute to loading-induced bone formation and bone injury responses? and 2) what are the skeletal effects of vibration? You will become an integral member of a multidisciplinary orthopaedic research laboratory at a major medical center (Washington University ranks 4th in terms of U.S. NIH funding). You will benefit from the strong collaborations that exist between our group and basic science researchers working in bone biology, developmental biology and genetics.

Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in biomedical or mechanical engineering, cell or molecular biology, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven record in musculoskeletal research. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong background in biomechanics to learn skeletal biology, or vice-versa. The fellowship is for a period of at least two years.

Applicants should apply by sending a cover letter, resume, and the names of three references via email or post to:
