Description

The Queensland Brain Institute (QBI) was established as a research Institute of the University of Queensland in 2003. The Institute is now operating out of a new $60 million state-of-the-art facility and houses 16 Principal Investigators with strong international reputations. The QBI is one of the largest neuroscience institutes in the world dedicated to understanding the mechanisms underlying brain function. The Hilliard laboratory uses C. elegans as an experimental model system to study neuronal development, with particular emphasis on neuronal polarity and axonal degeneration/regeneration. Using primarily a genetic approach, research in the lab aims to identify the key molecules and the mechanisms regulating these essential and fascinating processes. The Role: The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Hilliard and other members of the laboratory, who are interested in discovering the key genes acting in the axonal degeneration and regeneration processes.

The Person: Applicants should possess a PhD and have a strong background in Molecular Biology, Genetics and Cell Biology. Previous experience with the use of C. elegans would be advantageous.

Remuneration: This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for up to 3 years at Academic Research Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range of $68,600 to $73,637 including employer superannuation contributions of 17%.
