MRC Cancer Cell Unit
The Hutchison/MRC Research Centre (http://www.hutchison-mrc.cam.ac.uk)is an established centre for cancer research alongside Addenbrooke’sHospital in Cambridge.The Centre comprises the MRC Cancer Cell Unit andgroups belonging to the University of Cambridge Department of Oncology.
Post-doctoral Positions in Cancer Stem Cell Biology (2 posts)
Applicants are invited to apply for two posts within the group of DrPhil Jones.The laboratory’s primary interest is in studying how tumorsevolve from single mutated stem and progenitor cells into tumours usinga variety of in vitro and in vivo techniques. Both posts will build onour recent work on the behaviour of normal epidermal stem cells (Claytonet al, Nature (2007) 446,285-189) to develop new models of the earlystages of cancer development.
Post-doctoral Position 1
Ref: CCU07/699
This post will be involved in using mouse models to study the clonalexpression of oncogenes.You will ideally have experience in mousegenetics and a strong interest in cancer. Knowledge of mouse colonymanagement and confocal microscopy are desirable but training will be provided.
Post-doctoral Position 2
Ref: CCU07/698
This post will use organotypic cell cultures to investigate thebehaviour of human epidermal cells by clonal analysis. Experience ofcell culture, confocal microscopy, viral expression vectors andmolecular biology would be an advantage although training will be provided.
Both positions will require the candidate to have good interpersonal andcommunication skills and offer multi-disciplinary collaborations.
Both appointments are career development fellowships designed to provideadditional postdoctoral training in an excellent researchenvironment.These are 3 year appointments on MRC salary Band 4 (range£24,993 £30,945 pa) with a starting salary between £25,504 to £26,555 padepending on level of postdoctoral experience.
Benefits include a flexible pay and reward policy, excellent holidayentitlement, MRC final salary pension scheme and access to excellenton-site leisure facilities.
