SAIC-Frederick, Inc., a subsidiary of SAIC, and the operations and technical support contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick, a federally funded research and development center, has an immediate opportunity in our Laboratory of Human Retrovirology for a Postdoctoral Fellow. You will conduct research on the characterization of the molecular mechanism of HIV inhibition via a recently described novel anti-viral cytokine and the family members. Will perform tissue culture of primary CD4 T cells, CD8 T cells, monocytes, dendritic cells and natural killer cells and study signal transduction and gene expression, and the impact of cell-cell interaction and cytokine cross-talk on HIV replication. The use of multi-color flow cytometry, ELISA, RT-PCR, cloning, real time PCR, isolation of recombinant proteins, gene chip analysis and proteomic techniques will be used.

A Doctorate degree from an accredited college/university in a discipline related to biomedical research is required. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. No experience is required beyond the educational requirement. Must have a comprehensive understanding of and practical experience in biochemical technologies including molecular biology and tissue culture. Knowledge of signal transduction, virology and immunology are also required. Handling of infectious materials (e.g. blood samples from HIV infected patients) and working under BL-3 level laboratory will be involved. This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
