A Postdoctoral position is available to study combinatory molecular orpharmacological strategies for enhancing axon regeneration after CNSinjury (brain/spinal cord trauma) and cell transplantation. Initialexperiments will involve candidate screening in various culture systems, using the latest molecular techniques, including gene deliverystrategies with lenti-and adeno-associated viral vector systems(over-expression and shRNA knockdown) and microarray analysis as well ashigh content phenotypic drug analysis to identify novel axon growthpromoting molecules. Studies will then target translating combinationtherapies of these molecules with Schwann cells or neural precursorcells to CNS injury models where anatomical and behavioral efficacy canbe assessed. In addition, in vitro mechanistic studies will beundertaken to identify intracellular signaling cascades responsible forpromoting axon growth in response to identified compounds. Thepostdoctoral scholar will be part of a multi-institutional researchgroup (http://www.miamiproject.miami.edu) which involves frequentinteractions with a broad range of scientists with expertise in humangenetics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, immunology, molecularpharmacology, rehabilitative medicine and clinical pathology.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Applicant should have a recent Ph.D. in Neuroscienceor cell transplantation or related field. Experience in molecularbiological techniques is required including RNA and DNA extractions,PCR, RT-PCR, functional promoter assays and cloning. Previous work inprimary neuronal cultures, intracellular second messenger signalingpathways, siRNA and/or CNS injury models is desired. Excellentcommunication and organizational skills preferred. Candidates must havepublished at least one first author paper in an English languagejournal. An appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/orrelevant work experience will be considered.
