The Rudolf Virchow Center is the DFG Research Center at the University of Würzburg, funded by the German Research Foundation.

We are currently seeking excellent PhD students, postdoctoral fellows and junior as well as senior group leaders for biomedical research.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Biomedical research has a long and excellent reputation in Würzburg. This is augmented by the Rudolf Virchow Center, which not only provides ample opportunities for scientific interactions and collaborations within the Center, but also throughout the University. The Center has an outstanding reputation in cardiovascular diseases and cancer research, with a strong commitment to both basic and translational biomedical research. Research activities range from visualizing proteins at different resolutions to preclinical models of disease.

TECHNIQUES
Our research activities employ a wide variety of techniques in molecular and cellular biology. These include mass spectrometry, X-ray crystallography, and numerous different microscopic techniques, like the new method of STED-microscopy.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Our aim is not only to attract excellent established scientists to work on high-risk projects, but also to provide highly promising junior researchers with the opportunity to work independently. A special junior group leader programme with generous start-up funds for equipment and positions underpins this path to an early independent research career with a tenure track option. PhD students at the Center are members of the “Graduate School of Life Sciences”, which is supported by the first funding period of the “Excellence Initiative”. The Graduate School offers a structured and innovative PhD programme with a training programme, tailored to the students personal needs.
