Description
Project 1 (Dr. Zegers) investigates the molecular mechanisms regulatingepithelial cell morphogenesis during wound healing and inthree-dimensional culture systems. The research focuses primarily on thequestion of how the direct extracellular environment of epithelial cellsregulates processes like cell polarization, cell migration andproliferation. We specifically focus on the role of Rho effectorproteins in cell-cell and cell-matrix mediated signaling pathways.
Project 2 (Dr. ter Beest) investigates the role of intracellularmembrane trafficking in epithelial membrane polarity in two andthree-dimensional culture systems. In addition, we are interested howcellular transformation affects intracellular membrane transport and howthis contributes to loss in membrane polarity. We are focusing on therole of SNARE proteins and small GTPases in these processes.
Experimental approaches include two- and three dimensional cell culturemodel systems, laser confocal microscopy and biochemical and molecularbiology techniques.
Qualified candidates should have a recent Ph.D. or equivalent degree inCell Biololgy or related field, be motivated, organized, and able towork independently. Knowledge of techniques in cell biology andmolecular biology is required. Candidates should have a good command ofthe English language and should be available for an interview. Onlycandidates with proven track of publication in international peerreviewed journals can apply.
