Positions are available immediately for NIH-funded work on understandinghow enzymes ‘steer’ reactive intermediates towards desired products andaway from deleterious side reactions. Specifically, we are studying theoxidation of hydroquinone by the cytochrome bc1 and related complexes.
This work has direct implications for understanding the basic mechanismsof enzymes, how they avoid deleterious side reactions that can lead todisease, and the development of new drug discovery strategies.
Experience in the following areas is preferred: isolation of membranecomplexes, chemical synthesis, electron paramagnetic resonance, assaysof reactive oxygen species, enzyme kinetics, freeze quench,stopped-flow, electron and proton transfer.
