Description

Following the award of a Wellcome Trust Programme Grant to Dr. MarkSzczelkun, two 60-month Postdoctoral Research Assistants/Associates inMechanism, Control and Diversity of Molecular Motors on DNA areavailable. Post 1 – Biochemist (Ref 13650), Post 2 – Biophysicist (Ref 13649).

Both posts will be based in the DNA-Protein Interactions Unit in theDepartment of Biochemistry and will work closely together to investigatethe bacterial ATP-dependent Restriction-Modification enzymes as modelsystems for the helicase-based motors found in transcription,replication, recombination and repair.

Post 1. Postdoctoral Research Assistant/Associate (Biochemist –reference 13650). You will principally be involved in developing andapplying biochemical approaches, including rapid mixing techniques. Youwill have a PhD, good communication and interpersonal skills and be ableto work independently. Experience, preferably at the postdoctoral level,in one or more of the following would be an advantage: biochemistry,biophysics, molecular biology, enzymology, interdisciplinary/singlemolecule techniques and/or DNA-protein interactions.

Post 2. Postdoctoral Research Assistant/Associate (Biophysicist –reference 13649). You will principally be involved in developing andapplying magnetic tweezers and total internal reflection fluorescencemicroscopy. You will have a PhD, good communication and interpersonalskills and be able to work independently. Experience, preferably at thepostdoctoral level, in one or more of the following would be anadvantage: biophysics, biophysical chemistry, single moleculeenzymology, magnetic tweezers, fluorescence, protein chemistry and/orDNA-protein interactions.
