Description
A position in Molecular Microbiology funded by grants from the NIH and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Activities in the Center span the range from basic science to antimicrobial drug discovery. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to choose a project from a number of subjects including the mechanism of formation of drug-tolerant persister cells in a given pathogen such as E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. aureus, E. faecalis, C. difficile, or M. tuberculosis; biofilm tolerance to antimicrobials; the interaction between stress responses and antibiotic tolerance; and the mechanism of bacterial "uncultivability".
We seek a creative and resourceful individual with a Ph.D. in microbiology or a related field and a track record of publications in microbiology to join a vibrant team of researchers (http://www.biology.neu.edu/faculty03/lewis03.html). The successful candidate will have an opportunity to interact with the neighboring collaborating groups of the Center from Harvard Medical School, MGH, Tufts University and The Harvard/MIT Broad Institute.
The Northeastern University campus is in a pleasant location in downtown Boston, near the Art Museum and the Symphony. The position is available immediately, but the starting date is flexible and can be at any time in '08. The position comes with a competitive salary and a package of benefits
