Job Description
| The University of Chicago Description: Dr. Michael Spiotto’s laboratory in the Department of Radiation Oncology and Ludwig Institute for Metastasis Research is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow interested in head and neck cancer biology. The overarching goal of this laboratory is to understand the genetic events causing head and neck cancer and identify potential therapeutic targets. Additionally, we are interested in employing novel technologies to all aspects of head and neck cancer. This candidate will be involved in a variety of in vitro and in vivo studies to examine the biology and potential targeting of head and neck cancers. They will work directly with the investigator to develop novel protocols that include, but will not be limited to, mouse studies of tumorigenesis and metastasis. Current research projects involve in vitro and in vivo transposon based mutagenesis as well as small molecule screens against oncogenes involved in head and neck cancer. Candidates must have a Ph.D in molecular biology, cancer biology or related field. Prior evidence of creativity, productivity, and the ability to interact within a team are a must. Applicants who are enthusiastic, critical thinking, inquisitive and desire to make a contribution are most ideal. Candidates with backgrounds in mouse genetics, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, protein analysis, molecular biology and cloning techniques are particularly encouraged to apply. Experience with techniques such as soft colony agar assays, histology/immunohistology/immunofluorescence, animal husbandry/procedures, expression arrays and next generation sequencing are important.
