Molecular neuroscience studies in the miniature CNS of Oikopleura dioica
A three year postdoctoral position is available at the Sars Centre forMarine Molecular Biology to study nervous system development in theprotochordate Oikopleura dioica.
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with background in molecularneuroscience or molecular biology. The research project is based onrecent work done at the Sars Centre in which identification anddevelopmental characterization of specific neuron types has been carriedout using molecular and cellular techniques (Søviknes et al 2005, 2007).The candidate will be involved in extending this work to additionalneuron types with the aim of obtaining a complete map of the neurons inthe miniature nervous system of Oikopleura (approx 110 neurons in toto).The candidate will also take part in EM and tracing studies aimed atassessing patterns of synaptic connections, and characterizing theexpression of patterning genes involved in specifying neuron identities.The research project represents an important step towards understandingthe evolution of chordate nervous systems.
The position is available immediately, the start date negotiable.

Salary for Postdoctoral Researcher (code 8150) starts at NOK390.000depending on seniority. Unifob holds employee insurance and pensionagreements and is an equal opportunity employer.
