The laboratory of Dr. Markus Kuehn at the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences seeks a postdoctoral fellow to participate in a newly NIH-funded research project on the role of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in the development of elevated intraocular pressure and glaucoma. In particular we will be investigating whether trabecular meshwork cells are lost due to ER stress, the effect of trabecular meshwork cell loss, and whether stem cell replacement of lost TM cells can alleviate elevated intraocular pressure.
Dr. Kuehn’s laboratory is part of the University of Iowa’s Institute for Vision Research. This highly collaborative group of over 20 investigators occupies more than 40,000 square feet of research space within the same building, resulting in an enormous accumulation of resources and expertise.
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual taking a primary role in carrying out this research project. He/she will also prepare research results for publication, present results at national meetings and assist the PI in the writing of grant proposals. It is anticipated that the post-doc will eventually obtain independent fellowship support to further his/her own future career.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and documented research expertise in at least one of the following areas: stem cell biology, ER stress, and/or glaucoma cell biology.
Salary will follow NIH scale and will be commensurate with experience following the doctoral degree. Please submit a CV, a brief statement of research interests and experience, and the names and contact information of three references.
The University of Iowa is an affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer. Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
