Postdoctoral position in yeast genetics/genomics
A postdoctoral position is available immediately to work with Dr. ReetaPrusty Rao. The Prusty Rao lab exploits Saccharomyces cerevisiae, one ofthe best organisms for conducting controlled, unbiased large-scalestudies, and applies a combination of genomics, cell biological,molecular genetics and biochemical techniques to study fungalpathogenesis and ethanol production. The successful candidate will beinvolved in two projects. The first investigates the role of secondarymetabolites in signaling. Interrupting such chemical communication coulddisrupt the pathogenic process. Since S. cerevisiae shares manycharacteristics with pathogenic fungi, the ease of whole genome analysesin this organism can help identify key targets for antifungal drugdiscovery. The second project involves genetic modification of yeast toproduce cellulosic ethanol.
Candidates must have completed a PhD in molecular biology or genetics.Experience with the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is anadvantage, but not essential. Scientists with an interest in genomicsare especially encouraged to apply. The position is availableimmediately for two years renewed annually based on performance andavailable funding. Ideal candidates will have experience with at leastsome of the following techniques: basic (yeast) molecular techniques(PCR, cloning, transformation, selection), phenotypic analyses, mutantcharacterization, BLAST, primer design, real-time PCR.
