Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Structural Biology of Insulin, Insulin-like Growth Factors
Ref: 2591
A postdoctoral position, funded by the Medical Research Council within an international Programme Grant: A molecular dissection of the interplay between diabetes and cancer: an integrated, multidisciplinary approach, is available to work with Programme Co-ordinator Dr A. Marek Brzozowski in York Structural Biology Laboratory (YSBL ), Department of Chemistry.
The project will involve functional and structural studies on novel insulin and Insulin-like Growth Factors and their complexes with the receptors, and the development of web-based Centre of Insulin Research in York. The project is closely linked with work of Institute of Organic Chemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences (Prague), University College Cork and Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medial Research (Melbourne). The Programme should lead to delineation of structural determinants of metabolic and growth properties of insulin and IGFs, and lead to development of their novel analogues for more efficient treatments of diabetes and cancer.
Applicants should have a PhD in structural biology, biochemistry or related areas and some experience in X-ray crystallography and computational biology.
Starting salary will be £30,122 per year. The post is available from November 2012 for a period of up to five years on a full time basis.
