Description
Post-doc Position in Molecular Pharmacology
The Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, invites applications for a two-year post-doc position in the Molecular Pharmacology group starting April 1, 2008, or soon thereafter.
At present, the Molecular Pharmacology group comprise one Professor, two Associate Professors, two post-docs, five PhD students, and three master’s thesis students. The group conducts molecular pharmacology studies of different neurotransmitter receptors and transporters, in the central nervous system (CNS). The majority of the research conducted by the group is in the form of collaborations with the medicinal chemistry, structural biology and chemical biology groups at the department. The Molecular Pharmacology group also has several collaborations with other research groups in Denmark and abroad.
This project is focused on the excitatory amino acid transporters (EAATs) responsible for the synaptic reuptake of glutamate, the major excitatory neurotransmitter in the CNS. Being key regulators of the synaptic levels of glutamate, the EAATs are of therapeutic interest in relation to neurotoxic and neurodegenerative disorders, such as ischemia, epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The post doc project covers the study of a specific EAAT subtype, which has yet not been studied in great detail, investigation of the molecular basis for the properties of a series of novel EAAT-subtype selective ligands, and the pharmacological characterization of novel compounds.
The qualified candidate, is a dedicated and highly skilled person, with a background in molecular biology/pharmacology. He/she must be able to work independently as well as in a collaborative research group. Department policies require that the post-doc teach, what amounts to 5-10 % of the total work load). Candidates may apply before having received their PhD degree, but the selected candidate must have earned a PhD degree before the start of the appointment.
The position is covered by the terms of the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. As an equal opportunity employer, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications from all interested candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnic origin or religion.
For additional information about the project, please contact Anders A. Jensen, associate professor, PhD, phone +45 3533 6491, e-mail: aaj@farma.ku.dk.
Applications should be marked 08-322/MPD-15. Include in five copies, a current curriculum vitae, copies of relevant diplomas, a complete list of publications indicating those articles relevant to the position and copies of same, and a statement of teaching qualifications.
