The research group of Dr. E. Plettner seeks to fill one postdoctoralposition in synthetic organic chemistry. General information about ourresearch programs can be found at:http://www.sfu.ca/chemistry/faculty/plettner/ and athttp://www.sfu.ca/chemistry/CERG. The project requires the synthesis ofodorant and tastant analogs, which will be tested against targetproteins from the olfactory system of various serious pest insects. Theultimate goal is to find lead compounds for the development of new pestcontrol agents. The successful candidate is expected to synthesize andcharacterize the compounds, and to publish the research associated withthe design, synthesis and validation of the compounds. The candidatewill also be trained to perform rapid binding assays of the synthesizedcompounds with insect odorant-binding proteins. Other colleagues in theteam will test the behavioral and physiological activity of the compounds.
The position is available, starting in May of 2008.
