Transcriptional & epigenetic mechanisms in cardiac development.
Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a major birth defect that has aworldwide disease burden exceeding that of diabetes and results fromboth genetic and environmental factors. Our laboratory(www.well.ox.ac.uk/bhattacharya/) uses an interdisciplinary approachcombining high-throughput genetics and magnetic resonance imaging toidentify the genetic and gene-environment interactions underlying CHD. Aparticular interest is transcriptional regulation and the molecularmechanisms underlying genetic buffering.
We are seeking to recruit a postdoctoral research fellow with experiencein transcriptional regulation who would use cellular and molecularapproaches to complement these studies. These include analysis oftranscriptional mechanisms in cells and developing embryos; how theseare disrupted by human mutations and environmental modifiers;genome-wide epigenetic approaches (e.g. ChIP-on-chip, MeDIP); analysisof protein complexes using mass spectrometry. Expertise in massspectrometry and proteomics would be an advantage and you would beexpected to interact closely with the adjacent proteomics core facility(DrBenedikt Kessler, E-mail: bmk@ccmp.ox.ac.uk

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics provides excellent genomic& proteomic core facilities and opportunities for interactions withmolecular biologists & geneticists. The appointment is availablefrom 1 May 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter. The studies arefunded by a Wellcome Trust Programme Grant for 5 years.
