MOLECULAR MECHANISMS OF HUMAN DISEASE
Highly motivated postdoctoral associate needed to study molecularmechanisms of protein-losing enteropathy (PLE). We showed that synergyof cytokine challenge, increased venous pressure, and loss of heparansulfate from intestinal cells (Bode, et al JCI, 2008), all contribute toPLE. We provided an explanation for heparin therapy in PLE patients(Nature Clinical Practice, 2008).
Experimental systems include cell monolayers, mucosal explants, andmouse models of PLE. Methods cover biochemical analysis of cell-surfaceproteins, gene expression profiling, and analysis of signaling pathwaysactivated during PLE-inducing stress.
Requirements: PhD/MD with strong background in biochemistry, molecularand cell biology, and routine mouse work is required. Experience inintestinal physiology, animal surgery, and Glycobiology preferred.Publications, fluent spoken English, and an interactive, enthusiasticteam spirit are essential for success in the project.
