Description
Postdoctoral fellow in proteomics for breast cancer diagnosis
The Micro and NanoBioengineering group of McGill University seeks anoutstanding applicant for a postdoctoral fellowship in proteomics forbreast cancer diagnosis starting at the earliest convenience. Theproject is on the optimization and use of our new, groundbreakingmicrofluidic proteomics platform for the quantification of multiplecandidate breast cancer biomarkers in plasma (from breast cancerpatients). Our microfluidic platform features a novel antibodymicroarray format allowing multiplexed protein profiling with both veryhigh sensitivity and exquisite specificity, a currently unmetprerequisite to establishing reliable cancer biomarker panels.
The goal of the project is to establish a first comprehensive proteinbiomarker panel for breast cancer classification and prognosis, i.e.risk of metastasis. This panel will be validated using blood samples ofpatients with known disease outcome and will hopefully lead to moreefficient treatment for a patient and to an efficient tool formonitoring disease recurrence after surgical intervention.
This project is pursued in collaboration with leading researchers atMcGill including Dr. Morag Park (breast cancer genomics and blood bank),Dr. Peter Siegel (breast cancer metastasis), Dr. Michael Hallett (breastcancer bioinformatics), and Dr. John Bergeron (mass spectrometry-based proteomics).
We are seeking outstanding candidates with experience in blood samplepreparation for analysis in the context of disease, who are motivated byambitious, innovative and interdisciplinary research. The candidate willbe responsible for the clinical aspects of the research, bridging thedifferent labs, and for helping establish and validate the biomarkerpanels with patient samples. The application of the platform to otherresearch questions is encouraged and will give the candidate anopportunity to develop his/her own lines of research.
