The Cancer Prevention Program in the Public Health Sciences Divisionuses interdisciplinary approaches to evaluate the causes, detection andcontrol of cancer in laboratory, clinic and community-based studies
Job Description:
The Cancer Prevention Program is seeking a Post-Doctoral traineeinterested in research in cancer prevention. Research will involvestudies of the relationship between lifestyle, adipose tissueinflammation, and metabolic complications commonly associated withobesity. Specifically, we are studying human adipose tissue inflammationby immunophenotyping of the cells in the stroma vascular fraction(particularly macrophages), as well as gene expression of whole tissueor isolated cell populations. Aside from lab work to characterizedifferent aspects of adipose tissue biology, the position holder wouldhave the opportunity to be involved in clinical trials to study theeffect of lifestyle (specifically diet) on energy balance, adiposetissue and systemic inflammation, as well as biomarkers of risk fordiseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, orcertain types of cancer. This is a one year position, with continuationcontingent upon available funds.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Immunology, Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry,Nutritional Sciences, or related field is required. Experience withpackaged programs including SPSS and MS OFFICE is required. Stronglaboratory skills, particularly in flow cytometry, are essential.Previous work on monocytes/macrophages/dendritic cells as well asexpertise in cell culture, immunohistochemistry, and gene expressionanalyses (microarray and qPCR) would be desirable. Excellent written,verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidatesmust have a proven ability to handle competing priorities under thepressure of deadlines. Experience as a study coordinator in a clinicaltrial a plus.
