Description
A post doctoral position is available to study the effects of inducing aheat shock response (HSR) on the development of disease in a mouse model(EAE) of multiple sclerosis. This is an NIH funded project toinvestigate the molecular mechanisms by which a HSR isanti-inflammatory, inhibits Tcell responses, is neuroprotective, andmodifies adult neurogenesis (J. Neurochem, 99, p. 1351-62, 2006; J.Neurosci Res 67, 461-70, 2002; J. Neurochem 85, 387-398, 2003). Studieswill make use of novel small molecular weight compounds to inhibitHSP90, and will explore the relative importance of client proteindegradation versus induction of a HSR. The candidate should haveexperience in the EAE model or in analysis of Tcell activation, andknowledge of basic brain histological and Immunostaining methods. Otherprojects in the Feinstein lab include studies of stress responses andadrenergic signaling in the EAE model, in transgenic mouse models of AD,and in primary glial and neuronal cultures.
