The research group of Uwe Ohler (Computational Biology of EukaryoticGene Regulation) has two open positions for postdoctoral associates. Weare situated in the Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy at DukeUniversity, and are part of a vibrant community of computational andsystems biology. Ongoing projects are related to the modeling oftranscriptional and post-transcriptional control; evolution ofcis-regulatory regions; and high throughput microscopy and imageexpression analysis.
The focus of the first position is on regulatory sequence analysis andgene expression, and possible projects include analysis and modeling ofpromoter evolution as well as of regulatory networks includingtranscriptional and post-transcriptional control by small RNAs. Abackground in any of genome analysis, expression analysis, and/orevolutionary modeling is a plus, as is experience with machine learning algorithms.
The second position is part of a project [Quantitative modeling ofexpression pattern evolution in insect development] funded by the HumanFrontier Science Program, a collaborative effort with the labs of PavelTomancak at the Max Planck Institute in Dresden/Germany, and CaseyBergman at the University of Manchester/UK. The project aims to link theevolution of gene regulation on the levels of genotype (regulatorysequences) and phenotype (expression patterns obtained by microarrays aswell as 3D microscopy). A background in biomedical image analysis and/orspatial modeling is therefore a strong plus. Alternatively, candidateswith experience in models for comparative regulatory sequence orexpression analysis are encouraged to apply.
