Inpartnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, we form thelargest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, dedicated to researchthat extends from epidemiology, genetics and molecular biology, throughdrug discovery and development, to cancer diagnosis and patienttreatment. This makes us uniquely placed to work towards our vision thatpeople may live their lives free from the fear of cancer as a lifethreatening disease.
A post is available for an ambitious molecular biologist to join aresearch group interested in regulation of metastasis by the tumourmicro-environment. The project will be to study the influence of hypoxiaon breast cancer progression to enable better understanding ofmetastasis and to use this information to develop improved therapeuticapproaches. The project will focus on lysyl oxidase which is ahypoxia-induced extracellular matrix protein highly expressed in breastcancer, and the successful candidate will join a laboratory withextensive experience in studying the biology of hypoxia-regulated genes[See: Nature 440: 1222; MCB 24: 2875; Cancer Research 66:10238] .
Applicants should have a PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, CellBiology, Biochemistry or a relevant field with knowledge of tumourbiology and tumour micro-environment, metastasis and the extracellularmatrix, and breast cancer. Experience in molecular biology, cellbiology, tumour biology or biochemistry is essential and experience withmetastatic models. Applicants must have good laboratory and analyticalskills and experience of presenting data orally.
The appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract for up to 2 years and10 months in the first instance, with a starting salary in the range of£26,597 – £33,845 p.a. inclusive based on skills and relevant experience.
