The successful candidate will work onprojects related to genome-wide association studies and large-scalecandidate gene studies for common complex human diseases such ascoronary artery disease, heart failure, and childhood obesity. Thecandidate is expected to develop and implement novelstatistical/computational methods for problems arising from genome-wideassociation studies. Possible research projects include, but are notlimited to, developing statistical methods for gene-based associationanalysis, gene-gene interactions, pathway- and genetic network-basedanalysis, disease risk prediction using genome-wide marker data, association analysis for admixed populations, analysis of copy numbervariations, and developing the necessary software packages. Projects canbe tailored to suit the candidate’s research interest and expertise.
Positions will be funded by a 5-year NIH grant starting from September.Initial appointment is two years, but can be extended to three yearscontingent upon the candidate’s satisfactory progress. Salary iscommensurate with qualifications but will equal or exceed NIHpost-doctoral stipends.
A suitable candidate should have a doctoral degree in a quantitativefield, such as statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics,
computational biology, computer science, mathematics or physics, withinterest in genetics/genomics. Candidates with doctoral degrees ingenetics or related fields with strong computational and statisticalexpertise are also encouraged to apply.
A successful candidate should also demonstrate ability in scientificprogramming (preferably in C/C++, PERL), and ability of independentthinking and possession of excellent communication and writing skills.
