Description
The Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics is an international research institute with approx. 470 employees, working in the field of medical genomics. A special focus lies on genome analysis of man and other organisms.
The Department of Developmental Genetics (Prof. Herrmann) is seeking a strongly motivated
Postdoctoral Fellow in Tumor Genetics
(Code: H 02/03)
The Department of Developmental Genetics investigates the genetic control of mouse development and disease, employing state of the art molecular biology and transgenic approaches. Our research is focussed on the analysis of regulatory networks controlling epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, mesoderm formation and differentiation, and tumor progression.
The successful applicant will participate in a concerted effort focussing on the identification of modifiers of intestinal tumor formation and progression, with a strong focus on modifiers of epigenetic gene control involved in tumorigenesis. The consortium utilizes a combination of chromosome substitution (consomic) strains, next-generation sequencing, genetic mapping and bioinformatics to identify and localize modifers in subchromosomal regions of consomic mice, and validates the modifier candidates by in vivo tumor models. Applicants should hold a recent Ph.D. and/or MD degree, and should have expertise in at least one of the following areas: mouse genetics, cell biology, tumor pathology.
The position is available immediately for at least two years. Initially, a Max-Planck postdoctoral fellowship scheme will apply; a switch to a TVöD or equivalent position is intended after the first year.
The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
