Description

A postdoctoral fellowship in Image Reconstruction/ Analysis for Experimental Diabetes Research is now available for a joint project between the Dept. of Computing Science (www.cs.umu.se) and the Umeå Centre for Molecular Medicine (UCMM, www.ucmm.umu.se) at Umeå University (www.umu.se). The fellowship, made possible through a contribution from the Kempe Foundation, is for a maximum of two years. Admission as soon as possible after agreement.

Diabetes is a today a growing disease that imposes a major burden on our society. Our research aims at providing a better understanding of the mechanisms behind pancreas development and diabetes. In this enterprise we combine genetic models for development and disease of the pancreas with the use of new imaging technology (optical projection tomography, OPT), a technique that allows for three dimensional and quantitative studies of the murine pancreas with unprecedented resolution (For further information please see www.ucmm.umu.se/research/ulf/index.html

The current project aims at developing efficient software to facilitate quantitative methods of analyzing OPT data with a lower manual intervention than the method in use today. This includes the development and implementation of improved reconstruction algorithms as well as algorithms for post-reconstruction processing of data.

Requirements

The successful applicant should have a PhD with a strong mathematical and software engineering/computer science background. The applicant should have documented knowledge in the field of medical imaging/image analysis. A previous background within tomographic reconstruction is of particular merit for the position.
