Description
A highly motivated post-doctoral research fellow is sought to join the laboratory of Dr. Pragna Patel at the Institute for Genetic Medicine at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA. The primary project will aim to dissect the mechanism of regulation of the human PMP22 gene using state-of-the-art molecular approaches towards developing a therapeutic strategy for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1A (CMT1A). CMT1A is the most common inherited neuropathy and is associated with over-expression of the myelin gene, PMP22. The laboratory also studies the genetic basis of a number of inherited diseases, thus offering an opportunity for training in a broad area of human molecular genetics.
A PhD/MD with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, and biochemistry, and at least one first-authored publication in a high quality journal is required. Candidates with expertise in analyzing DNA-protein and protein-protein interactions, transgenic mice, and primary cell culture are preferred, but all outstanding candidates will be fully considered.
Contact
The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of continued appointment for up to three years. Applicants are requested to email a CV along with email addresses and phone numbers of three references to pragna@usc.edu with the term “Postdoc-09” in the subject.
