Description
A postdoctoral position is available immediately to study a tumor model in Drosophila. We recently found that impaired transcriptional repression caused tumorigenesis in Drosophila. This is a new line of research in the lab. We plan to use fly genetics and microarray technology to study evolutionarily conserved mechanisms underlying tumor formation. In addition, this position allows to study molecular mechanisms by which corepressors mediate transcriptional repression in the early Drosophila embryo. Transcriptional repression is required for the spatial and temporal control of gene expression that leads to normal development in all multicellular animals. However, it is still unclear how corepressors integrate and then convert combinatorial cis-regulatory information into different inhibitory cues. We are interested in the following corepressors: CtBP, Drap1, Ebi/SMRTER/HDAC3, Mi2/NuRD, Groucho/HDAC1, and Atrophin/HDAC1/2.
Fly genetics, transgenic flies, in situ hybridization, RNAi in flies and/or tissue cultures, microarray, ChIP-qPCR, ChIP-on-chip (or ChIP-seq) will be employed.
Candidates for the post-doctoral position should have experience in either Drosophila genetics, Biochemistry, or Molecular Biology. Applicants must have a Ph.D. and less than three years of postdoctoral experience. Applicants should send a cover letter, a CV, and names of 3 referees to yun2001@med.cornell.edu.
