Description:

The Department of Human Genetics focusses on systematic analyses of the childhood tumor neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma is a tumor of the peripheral nervous system with a variable prognosis, ranging from spontaneous regression to fatal progressive disease. The tumors are supposed to stem from a block in the embryonal differentiation program of the peripheral neural sympathetic cell lineage. We study neuroblastoma on the one hand by high throughput analysis of tumor series for mRNA, miRNA, CGH and SNP profiles and sequencing, which identifies gene defects, expression modules and clinical correlations. On the other hand, we use extensive cell line models to induce or silence expression of many genes and identify their downstream pathways by microarray profiling. All millions of datapoints are stored in a highly efficient bioinformatic analysis platform, developed on our lab. This user-friendly platform enables fast and easy analyses by ‘wet-lab’ researchers. Our research questions focus on the identification of molecular pathways that define aggressive neuroblastomas, their interactions and druggable key proteins in them.

We have a vacancy for a Post-doc position to identify and perform functional studies on miRNA signalling in neuroblastoma. The multiple downstream pathways of key neuroblastoma genes strongly affect miRNA regulation. Many cell lines with inducible gene expression or silencing ready for analysis. The candidate is expected to set-up a miRNA research line, with a keen interest in the role of miRNA signalling in the pathways studied in the department.

Applicants should have a completed Ph.D. study in molecular biology, preferably in cancer research and/or the miRNA field. We search a highly motivated candidate experienced in miRNA research and/or cancer pathway analysis and an interest in cancer research.

Depending on previous experience the gross salary is in the range between € 2932,- and maximum € 3860,- per month on a full-time basis. The contract is for 4 years.
