Description:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly established laboratory of Dr. Andrew Sharp in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York. Dr. Sharp’s group performs innovative genomic analyses of structural variation, epigenetics, and gene expression in an integrated environment combining experimental and bioinformatic approaches to human disease. This is a key role for a lead bioinformatics analyst who will work on a variety of projects and gain exposure to many productive areas of research in human genetics. This includes analysis of microarray and high-throughput sequencing data, genome sequence analysis, experimental design and statistical analysis. The research environment provides ample opportunities to work on both individual and team projects, with excellent publication prospects and opportunities for personal growth.

The ideal candidate will have strong statistical and programming proficiencies with proven expertise in genomic analysis. A minimum of two years of related experience in genome analyses, knowledge of online tools and databases for genetic analyses, and experience in statistical analyses of large datasets is required.

Desired skills include experience in Matlab, R statistical package, BioConductor, Perl/C++. Knowledge of QC and management of genomic data generated by microarrays and/or high throughput sequencing. The right candidate will have strong organization and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to productively work as a member of a team. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English are required.

A competitive salary and excellent benefits package will be provided commensurate with experience.

Mount Sinai School of Medicine is one of the premier research institutes in New York. Located in the Upper East side neighboring Central Park, The Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences comprises more than 70 faculty housed in a modern 16 floor research building. With more than $30 million in dedicated funding, Mount Sinai is currently establishing a new Institute for Genomics, of which Dr. Sharp is a key recruit. The Genomics Institute will be relocated to a new building, The Center for Science and Medicine, scheduled for completion in 2012.
