Description:

A postdoctoral research position in systems biology is available in the Klipp group (Theoretical Biophysics) at the Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany. This modeling position is immediately available for three years to work on a BMBF financed project (GerontoSys) that investigates the aging process in close collaboration with experimental partner groups. Based on quantitative data of oxidative protein damage mathematical models will be developed that study and predict the importance of different pathways for the aging process. See also the project description at our webpage. Our group has a strong expertise in mathematical modeling and systems biology. Amongst others we use differential equations, metabolic control analysis, spatial and time resolved modeling, stochastic simulations and Boolean networks to study biological systems.

We are looking for a Ph.D. with a strong background in modeling, knowledge of programming, popular modeling tools (CellDesigner, Copasi) and a sound knowledge of molecular and cell biology. In addition to the modeling itself, a major part of the work will be the identification and selection of reactions and pathways to be included into the models. For this purpose the candidate will be supported by another group member, who is familiar with the biology involved in the aging processes.
