Description:
The Division of Molecular Genetics (Kst. B063) is seeking a
Postdoctoral Scientist
in Molecular Diagnostics
(Ref-No. 52/2010)
Description: The German Cancer Research Center is a member in the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers and performs research in the areas of basic and translational cancer biology.
The working group “Cancer Genome Research” is focusing on improving diagnosis and prognosis of cancer patients as well as identifying and validating novel therapy targets. To this end, we apply high-throughput functional genomics and proteomics technologies and analyze candidate genes using in vitro and in vivo systems.
The task of the successful candidate is to support the translational activities of the working group in the field of molecular diagnostics of tumors (prostate, lung and breast cancer). Focus will be put on the analysis of nucleic acids (DNA mutations and chromosomal aberrations, RNA and miRNA expression) in human tissues and body fluids. Cooperations with clinical partners are established. The aim of the group is to identify molecular alterations associated with clinical parameters of cancer patients. Selected biomarkers will be validated in clinical studies, and first steps towards approval of verified biomarkers will be undertaken.
Well-documented interest in translational research, experiences in the development and application of technologies for high-throughput biomedical research (e.g. qRT-PCR, Luminex), data analysis and quality management are required. Knowledge in regulatory issues is a plus.
Your profile:
• University degree and PhD in biology, biochemistry, biotechnology or related fields
• Experiences in molecular and cell biology
• Excellent command of English (written and oral) is mandatory
• Highly motivated person with proven skills in team working and communication
The position is initially limited to 3 years with the possibility for an extension and can in principle be part-time.
