The Department of Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy (College of Pharmacy) at the University of Illinois, Chicago invites applications for a postdoctoral scientist in the laboratory of Brian T. Murphy. The candidate will participate in a program designed to explore the potential of secondary metabolites from marine bacteria to act as antibiotics for the treatment of tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.

Qualifications: Laboratory responsibilities primarily include the separation, purification, and elucidation of secondary metabolites from complex crude mixtures. The candidate must be fluent in various chromatographic techniques including HPLC and column chromatography, and must possess advanced structure elucidation skills. Previous experience working with separation chemistry from marine microorganisms, or with various solid and liquid fermentation techniques is highly recommended, though not required. Candidate must have a PhD degree in chemistry, biology, pharmacognosy, or a related field.

This appointment is good for one year with the possibility of extension to a second year pending adequate performance and mutual agreement; position begins on or near August 15th 2010.
