Description:

Our laboratory engages in a cross-disciplinary effort integrating vascular biology, transgenic mouse techniques, disease modeling, and in vivo imaging to advance the understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanism of angiogenesis, with an emphasis on arterial venous fate decisions that govern both physiological and disease processes. We take a conditional mouse genetic approach to manipulating gene expression in a cell lineage specific and temporally controlled fashion. These animal tools are coupled with cutting-edge imaging technology, which together provide exceptional access to gene function in vivo at the cellular resolution. Specifically, we utilize two-photon microscopy that has been optimized for in vivo imaging – from developing embryos to adult mice. The laboratory is well equipped with state-of-the-art capabilities at the organismic, cellular, and molecular levels. UCSF offers outstanding postdoctoral career development opportunities. The laboratory provides excellent support for career transition into disease-oriented animal research. A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with an exceptional publication record is required. Applicants should also have outstanding bench and organizational skills, as well as strong motivation for a career in vascular biology. A detailed understanding of optics and lasers is necessary to utilize and advance our in vivo imaging capabilities. Additionally, a working understanding of Matlab and basic programming skills is important for analysis of in vivo data. Other helpful, but not required, skills are machining and basic electronics fabrication. Willingness to work in a highly interdisciplinary research environment is expected. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills are required. US citizens and permanent residents are particularly encouraged to apply due to funding requirements. Salary and benefits are competitive. Women and minorities are particularly encouraged to apply. For information about research group go to: http://wanglab.surgery.ucsf.edu/.
